SHOCKING LIST OF TEXTING CODES – DO YOU UNDERSTAND YOUR KIDS CELL PHONE / INTERNET LINGO?

Just look around next time you are around young teens and preteens – you will be guaranteed to see many of them buried in their smart phone. Many kids 10 and older now have their parents iPhone 4 or some other phone that allows them to text and get on the Internet. What they are doing on those phones can vary widely.

Most adults and parent know what LOL, BFF, ROFL, and other innocent text codes stand for. But do you know what LMIRL (lets meet in real life), P911 (parent alert), and TDTM (talk dirty to me) stand for?

There are hundreds if not thousands more of these texting codes that young kids use on a regular basis and you will be absolutley shocked by what many of them stand for. Unfortunately, kids seem to learn these codes a lot faster than they learn their homework and one reason they do so is because they hope you, the parent, won’t be able to understand what they are talking about.

Please take the time to look over this free PDF put out by the state of Iowa Attorney General that gives a comprehensive list of  hundreds of these texting codes and all the lingo young kids are using today. You actually might want to print out a copy of the abbreviations so that you can learn some of these yourself and use it to decode what your child is texting when you check their phone (if you do that).
